2022 NBA Draft mock #12: Memphis Grizzlies: Yannick Nzosa
The Grizzlies are building around Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. In doing so, they have preferred to play a traditional center next to JJJ in the frontcourt, and Nzosa could be their long-term answer at the position.
The 6’11 big man is still 17 years old, but in his second season as a role player in Spanish Liga ACB for Unicaja. Last year, he averaged 4.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 11.6 minutes per over 40 contests. Nzosa has already played in 11 games this season and minutes have increased to 12.5 a night.
Nzosa needs to add size, and it will take time for him to reach his full potential. The 17-year-old is an impressive athlete that has shown the ability to protect the rim and guard on the perimeter. His defense will have scouts intrigued, and could be what makes him a lottery pick.
Nzosa’s offensive game is not versatile. He profiles as a strong roll man in time, but he does not shoot jumpers at this stage in his career.
The Grizzlies add another talented player as they continue to try to build a contender around Morant and Jackson Jr. Does Yannick Nzosa become a key piece for Memphis? He has all the potential too.
