2022 NBA Draft mock #9: Boston Celtics: Jaden Ivey

This draft class is light on true point guards, but fans know the league is shifting to smaller and more versatile players. Expect guards to perform well this season and vault up draft boards. There will likely be more than one point guard taken in the top ten, even if those talents have not fully presented themselves heading into the 2021-2022 NCAA season.

Ivey is in his sophomore season at Purdue, but the 19-year-old has taken a leap. He averaged 11.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 24.2 minutes per game as a freshman, but his production increased down the stretch before Ivey was the lead ball-handler for Team USA on Under-19 FIBA World Cup champions.

There are questions about his jumper after he shot 25 of 97 from 3-point range last season. Ivey has elite quickness and no issues finishing through contact. If he shoots 35 percent from downtown this year, the 6’4 guard could easily be a top-five selection in the 2022 NBA Draft.

The Boston Celtics need a point guard to pair with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and Jaden Ivey has plenty of upside. He could thrive in Boston and help the Celtics become title contenders again.
