Trade for Dallas Mavericks to acquire Goran Dragic: 2. Wait for Moses Brown
The Athletic’s John Hollinger noted that the Dragic trade could be on hold (subscription required) until Oct. 1 when Dallas could send Moses Brown to Toronto. The Mavs acquired Brown in the Josh Richardson trade and must wait to be able to aggregate him with other players in a deal. Here is a trade that works for both sides.
This deal allows the Mavericks to get off Dwight Powell’s contract and swap Burke for Dragic at the cost of Brown and a second-round draft choice.
Dallas did not want to take on Brown in the Richardson deal. He is a talented young center, but the Mavs preferred the open roster spot and additional cap space.
The Raptors get a center to develop, a draft pick, and two capable rotation players. Powell would likely play some minutes as the backup center, while on his hometown team. Burke gives them a veteran guard off the bench that can help mentor their young talent. Dallas would prefer to keep the second-round pick, but Toronto likely insists on it to clear Powell’s multi-year contract.
Adding Dwight Powell and Moses Brown would give the Toronto Raptors a similar big man logjam, though. If they are looking for more guard help, the Dallas Mavericks can offer a different package.
