Meet Dallas Mavericks summer league roster: Carlik Jones- G
Jones went undrafted in 2021 after playing four years of college basketball. The 23-year-old spent his first three at Radford before transferring to Louisville for his senior season. He averaged 16.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.4 steals in 37.5 minutes per game last year.
The Mavericks summer league roster is light on ball-handlers and playmakers, so the opportunity is open for Jones to play extended minutes. Dallas is likely to start Tyrell Terry and Nate Hinton in the backcourt, but Jones will be a key piece off the bench as Dallas attempts to win the title in Vegas. They will need his lead guard skills on the floor to be successful.
There are questions about the 23-year-old’s shooting. He connected on just 32.5 percent of his 378 NCAA 3-point tries. Jones must showcase the strides he made with his jumper, playmaking, ball-handling, and defense in Las Vegas. If not, the 6’1 guard will struggle to get consistent playing time.
Carlik Jones is in the running for the Dallas Mavericks’ second two-way contract. The 23-year-old must stand out in summer league and prove he can be the primary creator on the floor. Jones is a player to watch during the Las Vegas Summer League.
