Meet Dallas Mavericks summer league roster: Eugene Omoruyi- F
Omoruyi appears to be the favorite to land the Mavs second two-way contract heading into summer league. The 24-year-old played five seasons of college basketball. He spent his first three at Rutgers where he became an impact starter before transferring to Oregon. Omoruyi sat out a year before having a monster senior season where he averaged 17.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 steals in 30.6 minutes.
The 6’6 wing went undrafted in 2021 but could make a massive impact in Vegas. Mavs summer league head coach Greg St. Jean talked about how much the organization loves Omoruyi’s versatility. They plan on moving the rookie around and seeing what he can do.
The 24-year-old’s shooting is something to watch in Vegas. He missed all 16 of his 3-point attempts in his first two college seasons. Omoruyi took 45 threes in his final season at Rutgers before jumping it up to 109 in his senior campaign. He shot 37.6 percent and will be looking to prove he can consistently knock down jumpers during summer league. Fans may also get a Dirk one-legged fadeaway from Omoruyi in Vegas.
The Dallas Mavericks are high on Eugene Omoruyi. They will be hoping to keep him around following summer league. It could just be as a member of the Texas Legends, but the organization is intrigued by his potential, especially on the defensive end of the floor.
