Free agent still available Dallas Mavericks should target: 2. Dennis Schroder
A market that was flush with starting point guards quickly dried up. Chris Paul and Mike Conley stayed put. Kyle Lowry, Lonzo Ball, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Devonte Graham all found new homes via sign-and-trades. Schroder is the last man left on the market.
He is coming off a disappointing season in Los Angeles where he struggled in the playoffs, but there is plenty to like about the 6’3 point guard. Schroder is a proven starter capable of being the lead ball-handler and playmaker. He has averaged over 19 points and six assists per game for an entire season.
The 27-year-old would give the Mavericks the secondary creator they crave. He could play off the ball next to Luka Doncic and lead the second unit. Schroder can score and make plays. The Mavs needed more playmaking in the postseason. Dennis Schroder would instantly make the Dallas Mavericks more versatile and dangerous.
It will be interesting to see where Schroder lands. With the Lakers pull off a sign-and-trade and increase their luxury tax bill? Do they let him walk? What team is willing to pay the 27-year-old? The only organizations with significant cap space are rebuilding. Would Schroder be willing to sign in Oklahoma City or San Antonio? He is a player to watch in the days ahead.
