Plan B free agent option for Dallas Mavericks: 4. Nicolas Batum
Batum is another Clipper that made Dallas pay in the playoffs. LA coach Tyronn Lue inserted him into the starting five in Game 4 and the Clippers won three of the final four contests to advance to the second round.
Batum played a key role on both ends of the floor throughout the postseason as LA advanced to the Western Conference Finals. He spaced the floor, rebounded well, and played stout defense as the Clippers kept winning, even after Kawhi Leonard suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Batum checks all of Nico Harrison’s boxes. The 6’8 forward is comfortable guarding any player on the court. He can handle the ball, make plays, rebound, and space the floor. The 32-year-old has a 7’1 wingspan and held his ground while guarding Luka Doncic in the playoffs. Batum offers a veteran presence and 58 games of postseason experience too.
The Dallas Mavericks would love to add Nicolas Batum to their roster. He is not a scorer, but the 6’8 forward offers a ton to any contending team. Dallas would be smart to make him an offer no matter how free agency goes, but landing him as part of their Plan B could be massive as they attempt to win their first playoff series since taking home the championship in 2011.
