Plan B free agent option for Dallas Mavericks: 9. Reggie Jackson
Jackson went off in the playoffs. Over the final six games of the Clippers series against the Mavs, he averaged 17.7 points and 3.7 3-pointers made per game on 41.5 percent from downtown. Jackson was a key reason why LA made it to the Western Conference Finals. He put up 17.8 points a night throughout this year’s postseason on 48.4 percent shooting from the field.
The impressive playoff performance is likely to earn the 31-year-old a significant contract in free agency. He can handle the ball, make plays, and score. Over the last two seasons combined, Jackson has shot 39.3 percent over 898 3-point tries. The veteran guard should get a hefty raise over the $1.62 million he made with the Clippers last season.
Jackson would have a chance to produce his best offensive season playing off Luka Doncic in Dallas. The 22-year-old is going to attack the paint and spray out to open shooter. Jackson knocked down those shots with the Clippers, and he should only have more room in Dallas. The 31-year-old could handle the ball and take some pressure off Doncic as well.
It will be interesting to see how Reggie Jackson’s market develops this offseason with so many point guards available. Expect the 31-year-old to get a raise after his incredible playoff performance. The Dallas Mavericks should be looking for players that perform their best when the lights are the brightest, and Jackson fit that bill in 2021.
