Plan B free agent option for Dallas Mavericks: 10. Kelly Oubre Jr.
Mavs new general manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison noted his team around Luka Doncic was likely to possess versatility, shooting, length, defensive intensity, and rebounding.
Oubre Jr. checks a lot of those boxes. He is a versatile defender that is no stranger to guarding the opposition’s best scorer. The 6’7 wing has a 7’3 wingspan, and he grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game last season. Tsunami Papi is missing the shooting element as he has hit just 32.6 percent from 3-point range over 1,566 career attempts, but Oubre Jr. offers plenty of skills to get excited about.
The 25-year-old would give the Mavericks another capable scorer. Oubre Jr. averaged 15.4 points per game on 43.9 percent shooting from the field last season for the Golden State Warriors. The 25-year-old is a capable third or fourth scoring option on a team looking to contend.
Kelly Oubre Jr. is looking for a significant payday this offseason, but his market may not materialize. The Dallas Mavericks should consider him if Tim Hardaway Jr. decides to sign elsewhere. He will not replace THJ’s shooting, but Oubre Jr. would be a defensive and rebounding upgrade that can replicate his scoring.
