Plan B free agent option for Dallas Mavericks: 1. Richaun Holmes
Holmes is one of the most underrated unrestricted free agents on the market. The league is shifting its focus to guards and wings with versatility. Big men are often forgotten and undervalued. The Clippers exploited Dallas’ lack of rim protection in their first-round playoff series after going small. The Mavericks need someone to rebound and be a deterrent in the paint.
Holmes averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 29.2 minutes per game last season. The 27-year-old fills Dallas’ needs, and he continues to improve. Holmes is an outstanding roll man that finishes well around the rim. The 6’10 big man converts his free throws and can be a force on both ends of the floor.
Richaun Holmes could take a massive step forward in Dallas. He would be playing off one of the best pick and roll ball-handlers in the world in Luka Doncic. The Mavericks would put him in positions to succeed and maximize his talents.
The Sacramento Kings are the favorites to land Holmes in free agency, but he will have multiple suitors. Expect the Dallas Mavericks to pursue the 6’10 big man if their first plan does not work out. Richaun Holmes could be the missing piece for the Mavs on both ends of the floor, and he makes a fantastic Plan B target.
