Plan B free agent option for Dallas Mavericks: 2. Spencer Dinwiddie
Dinwiddie figures to lead the second tier of free-agent point guards this summer. He lifted the Nets to the playoffs two straight years before Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were healthy last season. Dinwiddie can play on or off the ball, and he has averaged over 20 points per game for an entire campaign.
The 6’5 guard is capable of relieving the pressure on Luka Doncic. Dinwiddie would be comfortable as the secondary creator when the Mavericks superstar is on the floor. Then, he moves over to the primary option when Doncic rests. It would allow Dallas to keep their offense rolling when Luka is off the floor, which is a massive struggle for the Mavs as currently constructed.
Dinwiddie is capable of guarding the opposition’s lead ball-handler. He has length and versatility but is not a standout option. The 6’5 guard holds his own on the defensive end of the floor.
Spencer Dinwiddie should be the Dallas Mavericks’ top Plan B option at point guard, assuming Kyle Lowry, Mike Conley, and Chris Paul all sign at the start of free agency. Dinwiddie can be the secondary scorer and creator the Dallas Mavericks need to take the next step.
