Realistic free agent for Dallas Mavericks to target: 1. Kyle Lowry
Lowry is rumored to be the Mavs top target and rightfully so. The six-time All-Star is an elite ball-handler and playmaker with championship experience. He averaged 17.2 points, 7.3 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 34.6 minutes per game last season. Lowry shot 43.6 percent from the field, 39.6 percent on his threes, and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line in a year where the Raptors were playing their home games in Tampa.
The 35-year-old can play on or off the ball. Lowry would have no issues spacing the floor, knocking down shots, and improving the Mavericks ball movement with Luka Doncic on the floor. Then, the veteran takes the reins when the 22-year-old superstar needs a rest.
Lowry competes hard on the defensive end of the floor and is no stranger to guarding the league’s best primary ball-handlers. The Mavs do not have a player on their roster that can slow down an elite guard, so the six-time All-Star would be an upgrade on both ends of the floor.
His championship and playoff experience becomes massive for the young Mavericks. Lowry would be the only player on their roster with a ring. Dallas needs a veteran that can provide leadership and know-how when the going gets tough in the playoffs. Kyle Lowry should be the Dallas Mavericks’ top free target this offseason.
