Realistic free agent for Dallas Mavericks to target: 4. Tim Hardaway Jr.

Hardaway Jr. has become an important role player for the Mavericks. Most viewed him as a salary dump by the Knicks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade back in 2019, but THJ has arguably been more valuable than the Unicorn in Dallas. He is a lethal catch-and-shoot option that has improved his efficiency significantly.

Hardaway Jr. is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and the Mavericks are focused on re-signing him to a long-term deal.

Dallas may renounce his cap hold, but fans should not panic. It sits at $28.4 million, which is far less than he will receive on his new deal. The Mavs want to re-sign him and add another marquee free agent, so they must pull off some cap maneuvering to make that happen.

There appears to be mutual interest in a reunion, but the two sides still need to get the deal done. The Mavericks cannot take signing Tim Hardaway Jr. for granted. They must make him a fair and competitive offer immediately and secure his signature on a new contract. Dallas needs his shooting, floor spacing, and ability to get buckets playing off Luka Doncic next season.
