Free agents Dallas Mavericks should avoid this offseason: 1. Dennis Schroder

Schroder wants to get paid this summer. He is seeking north of $100 million on his next deal. The 27-year-old is in an advantageous position with the Lakers. They do not have cap space, despite having just seven players under contract for next season. Re-signing their current free agents is one of the few ways they can remain as talented in 2022.

Schroder struggled in the playoffs against the Suns. His production dropped in virtually every category, despite earning more playing time. That is a bit concerning for any team looking to contend for the title next season. Schroder’s below league average 3-point shooting and score-first mentality factor into his ability to maintain his production in the postseason.

The Dallas Mavericks should go nowhere near Dennis Schroder on a four-year deal worth $100 million. Even if the 27-year-old improves significantly this summer, there is no way he can produce $25 million in value next season. Overpaying for a role player is not the path to title contention. Schroder may get his $100 million deal, but it should not be in Dallas.

Next. 5 free agents that pair nicely with Luka Doncic

The Mavericks will be active and aggressive in acquiring talent. There will be plenty of rumors too. Keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
