Free agents Dallas Mavericks should avoid this offseason: 3. Talen Horton-Tucker
Horton-Tucker could be the biggest gamble in the free-agent market. It is going to take a significant offer to snag the 20-year-old away from the Lakers. He is a restricted free agent, but Los Angeles is likely headed deep into the luxury tax this offseason. Will they pay handsomely to keep someone that played just 1,304 minutes this season?
Horton-Tucker has plenty of potential, but he needs time to develop. The 20-year-old is not ready for significant playoff minutes. A rebuilding team could see an opportunity to add a young talent and sign him to a massive offer sheet.
The Dallas Mavericks should avoid Talent Horton-Tucker in free agency. It will likely take a four-year deal worth more than $60 million to steal him away from the Lakers. The 20-year-old is not ready to produce that type of value, especially in the postseason.
He would be a poor fit in Dallas too. Horton-Tucker is a below-average 3-point shooter that needs the ball in his hands to be productive.
His free agency is one to watch, though. Signing THT is a massive gamble, but some team could strike significantly if he reaches his ceiling.
