Dallas Mavericks most likely to be traded this offseason: 1. Dwight Powell
Powell is one of the hardest workers in the league. He came back from an Achilles tear and played nearly 1,000 minutes for the Mavericks this season. It was a testament to Powell’s work. The 6’10 big man had 25 points and nine rebounds against the Lakers on April 24. He showed he can still make an impact on a game, but Powell is a matchups option.
The 30-year-old played in all seven playoff games but was relegated to less than ten minutes in six of them. He has two years and $22.16 million remaining on his contract. If the Mavericks are looking to clear space, they could move on Powell and gain future flexibility too.
Dallas wants to re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. and add another key piece. Doing so is likely going to involve a trade. Powell’s contract is the type that gets worked into deals because it helps make salaries match up. The Mavericks are likely to trade Dwight Powell if they sign a free agent upgrade this summer.
Expect the Dallas Mavericks to be active and aggressive in acquiring talent this offseason. Can they build a title contender around Luka Doncic? Stay tuned to find out.
