Free agent that pairs well with Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic: 3. Lonzo Ball
Lonzo has not lived up to the superstar status hyped on him after being the second overall pick in the 2017 draft. The 23-year-old has improved every season and is a dangerous role player that would seamlessly slot in the backcourt next to Luka Doncic.
The 6’6 guard can handle the ball, make plays, and space the floor. Last season with the Pelicans, he averaged 14.6 points, 5.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 31.3 minutes per game. Ball connected on 3.1 3-pointers per game and shot 37.8 percent from long range. He sank an impressive 40.2 percent of his 323 catch-and-shoot triples. Lonzo would be able to take some of the offensive burden off Luka, while also spacing the floor for him.
Ball is a plus defender that is no stranger to guarding the opposition’s lead ball-handler. That is a role the Mavericks have been trying to plug since they drafted Doncic. Ball would have no issues checking Damian Lillard, Ja Morant, Donovan Mitchell, and the rest of the top point guards in the Western Conference.
Lonzo Ball is a restricted free agent this summer and a gamble for the Dallas Mavericks. The 23-year-old has never played in more than 63 games in a season. He would be a fantastic fit next to Luka Doncic when healthy, though.
