Dallas Mavericks with the most trade value: 2. Jalen Brunson
Brunson had a breakout third NBA season. The 24-year-old played a career-high 25.0 minutes per game and took a massive leap. He averaged 12.6 points on 52.3 percent shooting from the field and 40.5 percent on his 3-point tries. Brunson’s improvements put him in the running for Sixth Man of the Year, and every team is excited about his future.
The Mavericks signed JB to a four-year deal worth $6.1 million after selecting him in the second round in 2018. They made the final season non-guaranteed, instead of a team option. The Mavs are going to pick up the $1.8 million pact, but it does not allow them to make Brunson a restricted free agent. He will be unrestricted in the summer of 2022, unless Dallas signs him to an extension. If the two sides cannot come to terms, they risk losing the 24-year-old for nothing.
Every team in the league wants a rapidly improving point guard making under $2 million this season. The Knicks have already been rumored as targeting Brunson. The Mavs would want a haul as they view him as an important piece of their core. JB’s extension talks are one of the many things fans should be watching this offseason.
