Draft prospect Dallas Mavericks should trade to acquire: 3. Luka Garza
Luka Garza is a 6’11 center from The University of Iowa. During his senior season, Garza averaged 24.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and shot 44.0 percent from behind the arc.
Luka Garza is back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Year, and he won the 2021 Naismith Player of the Year award. The 22-year-old was the best college basketball player of 2021. Garza is a massive offensive talent. He shows elite finishing ability and has a plethora of offensive post moves. Garza’s strength allows him to move opposing big men in the paint with ease, but even more impressive is his outside shooting. Garza is the complete offensive package.
Defensively is where the big man is going to run into almost all of his problems. Garza lacks the athleticism and footwork to stand out on defense. He will more than likely get taken advantage of on pick and rolls as well. Garza shows a lot of heart and hustle, which will almost make him a fan favorite wherever he winds up.
Even with Garza’s defensive and athletic disadvantages, he draws comparisons to Enes Kanter. Garza’s outside shooting ability gives him more potential than Kanter. He has a ton of work to do to make it a reality, though.
