Dallas Mavericks need in free agency: 1. Second scorer
Owner Mark Cuban let fans know what the Mavs needed shortly after they were knocked out by the Clippers. See his quote below, courtesy of Diamond Leung.
Kristaps Porzingis filled that second scorer role during the regular season by averaging 20.1 points per game, but he dipped to 13.1 a night in the playoffs. The Mavs lack of shot creation hurt in the postseason. Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, and Tim Hardaway Jr. are the only players that can create a look for themselves. The others need to be set up and find shots in the flow of the offense.
Dallas needs to add another player that can score 17-20 points per game and create their own shot. If Tim Hardaway Jr. departs, their need for a shot creator becomes larger. The Mavericks should be in the market for an All-Star and a veteran backup point guard. Adding two players that can create shots would do wonders for the team next season.
The Dallas Mavericks’ new leadership has their work cut out for them. Free agency kicks off on Aug. 2, and they need to improve the roster around Luka Doncic. Can they fill all five needs? Keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
