Free agent power forward for Dallas Mavericks to target: 3. Bobby Portis
Bobby Portis played a key role for the Milwaukee Bucks as they reached the NBA Finals this year. Portis averaged 11.4 points and 7.1 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per game during the regular season. He continued to be a consistent scorer and rebounder off the bench in the postseason. Portis plays solid defense and can guard multiple positions too.
Portis has played four teams in the last three seasons. He was drafted by the Bulls before making stops in Washington and New York before joining the Bucks. The 6’10 forward has a $3.8 million player option for next season, which he could accept after Milwaukee’s run (subscription required).
Portis proved to be a force on the boards that can get the opposition in foul trouble. He would be a fantastic pick-up with the mid-level exception that the Mavericks have at their disposal this summer.
Portis improved his stock during the playoffs and figures to have plenty of suitors if he reaches the open market. If the Dallas Mavericks do not contact his agent right at the start of free agency, it might be impossible to get Bobby Portis to Dallas.
