Dallas Mavericks rumors: Interest in John Collins
The Athletic’s Shams Charania rumored (subscription required) Dallas as one of four teams looking at Collins. The San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves are all expected to try to sign the restricted free agent away from the Hawks.
Collins is one of the best and most intriguing restricted free agents because he could be available. If a team signs him to a max offer sheet, the Hawks will have to go deep in the luxury tax to match. They reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, but will owner Tony Ressler be willing to pay that price to keep the 6’9 forward.
Collins has proven he can produce 20 points and ten rebounds a night. His rim protection and outside shooting has improved over his four NBA seasons. The 23-year-old is an impactful starter that should only continue to improve. Teams will be lining up to try to sign the forward away from Atlanta. He would instantly upgrade the Mavs rebounding, rim protection, and floor spacing.
The Dallas Mavericks are interested, but are they willing to offer a max contract? Even if they do, will the Hawks match? Pursuing restricted free agents is risky. Will the Mavs take that chance this summer? Stay tuned to find out.
