Dallas Mavericks rumors: Nerlens Noel is on Mavs radar
SNY’s Ian Begley listed the Mavericks as one of four teams that were showing interest in free-agent big man Nerlens Noel. The Nets, Raptors, and Hornets are also in the mix, according to Begley.
Noel spent a season and a half in Dallas starting in Feb. 2017. The Mavericks traded Justin Anderson, Andrew Bogut, and two second-round picks to acquire him from the Sixers. They were hoping he could be their starting center of the present and future, but things did not go as planned for either side.
Noel never got the minutes he envisioned in Dallas. He turned down a four-year extension after the trade, and ended up playing out the 2017-2018 season on the qualifying offer. Noel has played for the Thunder and Knicks since leaving the Mavericks.
Dallas needs a rim protector and rebounder. Noel fits that bill, and he would give the Mavs some flexibility in the frontcourt. The 27-year-old should be in his prime. Would he be willing to come back to Dallas? Noel clashed with head coach Rick Carlisle during his first stint, but he is no longer with the team. Do not rule out a reunion this summer as the Dallas Mavericks look to round out their roster.
