Restricted free agent worth the Dallas Mavericks overpaying: 3. Jarrett Allen
The Nets signing former Mavs big man DeAndre Jordan in 2019 did not make a ton of sense. Yes, he is friends with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but Brooklyn had one of the best young centers in the NBA on their roster.
Allen was traded to Cleveland in the James Harden deal. This season over 63 combined games, he averaged 12.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 29.6 minutes per game. He shot 61.8 percent from the field and 70.3 percent on his free throws.
The Cavaliers gave up a first-round pick to acquire Allen. They are likely to match any offer sheet, but the 23-year-old is worth overpaying for this summer. He is an outstanding rebounder, rim protector, roll man, lob threat, and role player. The Nets made the playoffs two straight years with Allen as their starting center.
The Luka Doncic and Jarrett Allen pick and roll combination would be a massive threat. Over the last two seasons combined, Allen has scored 1.29 points per possession as the roll man. Mavericks supporters know Luka is one of the best pick and roll ball handlers in the league. The combination alone would make the 23-year-old big man worth overpaying for this offseason.
