Restricted free agent worth the Dallas Mavericks overpaying: 4. Duncan Robinson
Robinson broke onto the scene as a lights-out 3-pointer for the Miami Heat during the 2019-2020 season. He followed it up by playing more minutes and still connecting on over 40 percent from long range. Robinson’s field goal percentage dipped, but he still averaged over 13 points per game and was an important floor spacer for the Miami Heat.
The Mavericks produced the highest offensive rating in NBA history during the 2019-2020 season. It was broken this year, but Seth Curry was a key piece of their incredible offense. Dallas attempted to improve their defense by trading Curry to Philadelphia for Josh Richardson. The Mavs would love to have an elite shooter back on their roster next season.
Duncan Robinson fits that mold. He could be a better fit than Curry for several reasons. First, Robinson is 6’7 with the versatility to defender multiple positions. He also shoots at volume. Curry made 2.3 3-pointers per game for the Mavericks. Robinson connected on 3.5 a night for the Heat this season. The 27-year-old is determined to expand his game this offseason, and fans can hear him discuss his areas of improvement here.
It will be interesting to see what type of deal Duncan Robinson signs this offseason. The Heat have Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler locked in for next season, but the rest of their roster is in flux. Miami is likely to match the offer sheet, but acquiring Robinson would be an upgrade for the Dallas Mavericks.
