2021 NBA Draft mock #8: Orlando Magic (via Chicago Bulls): James Bouknight
Bouknight is one of the biggest risers in this class. He had an outstanding showing at his workout that alleviated some of the concerns NBA teams had about his game. Bouknight shot the ball well and showcased improved touch from his time at UConn.
The 20-year-old missed a month of action with an elbow injury, which limited him to just 15 games this season. He averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 31.7 minutes each night. He shot 44.7 percent from the field and 77.8 percent on his free throws. Bouknight is one of the best scorers in this class.
He profiles as a secondary ball-handler and bucket getter. Bouknight averaged less than two assists per game at UConn. The 6’5 guard fits that Jordan Clarkson or Tim Hardaway Jr. mold.
This will be Orlando’s second lottery pick. In this mock, they select Jonathan Kuminga at fifth overall. Bouknight gives them a dynamic scoring guard to pair with Markelle Fultz, Jonathan Isaac, Cole Anthony, and Wendell Carter Jr. It is one of the youngest top sixes in the league. They are packed with potential and coach Jamahl Mosley and his staff will be tasked with developing them.
