2021 NBA Draft mock #7: Golden State Warriors (via Minnesota Timberwolves): Davion Mitchell
The Timberwolves traded this selection to the Warriors in the D’Angelo Russell trade in Feb. 2020. Golden State has two lottery picks in this year’s draft, but both could be dealt on or before July 29. The Dubs want to jump back into title contention. Klay Thompson should be healthy, and the team has multiple assets to use to upgrade their roster around Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
If the Warriors keep the selection, they will likely be searching for a prospect that can help them win now. Mitchell offers just that. The 22-year-old led Baylor to the NCAA championship in 2021. He averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 assists, and 1.9 steals in 33.0 minutes per game. Mitchell shot 51.1 percent from the field and 44.7 percent on his threes during his final college season.
The 6’2 guard competes hard on both ends of the floor. He is one of the most NBA-ready prospects and would give the Warriors another dangerous floor spacing guard that can handle the ball and make plays.
Some question marks push him down to seven. He is already 22. Mitchell shot just 31.2 percent from 3-point range over his first two college campaigns. Will his shooting fall back to earth, and his size stunt him on the defensive end? Those concerns are likely overblown as Davion Mitchell will blossom in Golden State.
