2021 NBA Draft mock #5: Orlando Magic: Jonathan Kuminga

Here is where things start to get interesting. Several players will be under consideration at this pick. Team preference will play a massive role in who gets chosen where. Kuminga appears to be the favorite at fifth overall, but it is a selection based on upside.

The Magic currently have the fifth and eighth overall picks in this draft. They will be looking to add two key building blocks in their rebuild. Former Dallas Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley is set to take over as head coach. He had a hand in developing several players, including Luka Doncic. Mosley will want talent that he can help sculpt.

Kuminga went the G League route. The 18-year-old averaged 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steal, and 0.8 blocks in 32.8 minutes per game. He shot just 38.7 percent from the field, 24.6 percent on his threes, and 62.5 percent from the foul line. The 6’8 forward must improve his shot selection, but he packs plenty of potential on both ends of the floor.

The Orlando Magic shoot for upside with their first of two top eight selections. Jonathan Kuminga gives them a wing with length and athletic ability that could turn into a two-way force if he reaches his peak.
