2021 NBA Draft mock #3: Cleveland Cavaliers: Evan Mobley
Mobley has the potential to be a game-changing center in the NBA. The seven-footer is an outstanding athlete with a versatile skill set. He averaged 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.9 blocks in 33.9 minutes per game during his lone season at USC. Mobley profiles as an outstanding rim roller and lob threat with the potential to develop a consistent 3-point shot.
The 20-year-old has Defensive Player of the Year upside. He protects the rim, rebounds well, and can get out on the perimeter a bit. Mobley will need time to develop in the NBA. He is listed at 210 pounds and must add more mass to be able to defend in the post. Teams will be salivating about his defensive potential.
The Cavaliers have an important decision to make on Jarrett Allen. They traded a first-round draft pick to acquire him during the 2020-2021 season, but he heads into restricted free agency this summer. Will Cleveland match any offer?
Even with Allen back, the Cavaliers should take the best player available. Mobley gives them tremendous upside. Big men take a few seasons to develop. The Cavaliers could play him behind Jarrett Allen until he is ready for massive minutes. At that point, both men should have plenty of trade value.
