2021 NBA Draft mock #27: Brooklyn Nets: Trey Murphy III
Murphy III has been a name on the rise during the predraft process. He transferred from Rice to the University of Virginia this season where he took his shooting efficiency to another level. The 21-year-old averaged 11.3 points and 3.4 rebounds on 50.3 percent shooting from the field, 43.3 percent on his threes, and 92.7 percent from the foul line.
Murphy backed that up with an outstanding combine performance. He measured at 6’9 with a seven-foot wingspan. The 20-year-old also put his shooting ability to full display. Teams are drooling over his potential as a 3-and-D wing. His combine performance pushed him into the first round. Do not be surprised to see him keep climbing before July 29.
The Brooklyn Nets were bounced by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs as their injuries mounted. If they can get their three stars healthy, the Nets will be prime title contenders next season. Expect them to add an NBA-ready option that can play a role off the bench.
Trey Murphy III fits that bill. The 6’9 forward does not need the ball. He spaces the floor, knocks down shots, and has a ton of defensive potential. The 20-year-old would be the perfect fit in Brooklyn.
