2021 NBA Draft mock #26: Denver Nuggets: Sharife Cooper
The Nuggets will be searching for a quality rotation guard for next season. Jamal Murray is set to miss a significant portion of the regular season recovering from a torn ACL. Denver hopes he will be ready for the playoffs, but it will depend on how quickly his knee heals. Austin Rivers and Will Barton could also depart in free agency.
Cooper did not measure at the combine, but he is listed at 6’1 and 180 pounds. The 20-year-old will struggle on the defensive end of the floor. Do not be surprised to see teams hunting him early in his NBA career. Cooper must prove he can hold his own on that end of the floor.
He averaged 20.2 points, 8.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 33.1 minutes over 12 games. Cooper dealt with eligibility issues early in the season before suffering an ankle injury that cost him time. The 20-year-old is one of the many unknowns of this draft.
Sharife Cooper has scoring, passing, and playmaking ability. That is what the Denver Nuggets desperately need as Jamal Murray recovers. The 6’1 guard out of Auburn should fit in nicely, and he gives coach Michael Malone one piece to use in a difficult playoff series.
