2021 NBA Draft mock #23: Houston Rockets (via Trail Blazers): Ayo Dosunmu
The Rockets have back-to-back selections here after already taking Jalen Green at number two overall in this mock draft. Houston is just beginning a rebuild and will be searching for the best player available with this pick. The Rockets likely want a floor spacer that can get buckets.
Dosunmu played three seasons at Illinois. He started and improved each year. As a junior, the 21-year-old averaged 20.1 points, 5.3 assists, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 35.1 minutes per game. He shot 48.8 percent from the field, 39.0 percent on his threes, and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Dosunmu measured at 6’5 with a 6’10.25 wingspan at the combine. He is not a superb athlete, but the 21-year-old competes hard on both ends of the floor. NBA teams will be excited about his scoring, ball-handling, playmaking, and shooting abilities. Do not be surprised to see him grow into an above-average defender during his prime too.
The Rockets could potentially tear their roster down further this season. Do not be surprised to see Ayo Dosunmu playing a significant role next season if he heads up in Houston. He will be ready to show teams that he should have gone higher.
