2021 NBA Draft mock #20: Atlanta Hawks: Jared Butler

Butler was the leading scorer on Baylor’s national championship team in 2021. He played three seasons with the Bears and improved every year. The 20-year-old averaged 16.7 points, 4.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in 30.3 minutes per game this season. Butler shot 47.1 percent from the field, 41.6 percent on his threes, and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Butler needs medical clearance to play in the NBA, according to Shams Charania. There is still some uncertainty, but assuming he is give the go ahead, Butler could do down as one of the steals of the draft.

The 20-year-old made significant improvements in each of three college seasons, which will have NBA teams excited about his potential. He measured just under 6’4 with a 6’4 wingspan at the combine, but Butler should be an outstanding shooter that can handle the ball and make plays. His defense could be a question, but the former Baylor guard is a winner with an outstanding skill set.

The Atlanta Hawks made a surprising run to the Eastern Conference Finals this season. They snag Jared Butler to add depth as they look to take another step forward in 2022. Keep an eye on Butler’s status leading up to draft night.
