2021 NBA Draft mock #17: Memphis Grizzlies: Isaiah Jackson
The Grizzlies have done a tremendous job at developing talent in recent years. Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Dillon Brooks headline the list, but several players have made strides in Memphis. The Grizzlies have a young team that continues to improve. They have the luxury of shooting for a high upside player at this slot.
Fans have seen several Kentucky players quickly leap at the next level. Could Jackson be the next one on that list? The 19-year-old big man averaged 8.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in 20.8 minutes per game during his lone season with the Wildcats.
NBA teams will be excited about his ability to protect the rim and rebound. Fouls limited his playing time in college, and it will be an issue at the next level.
Jackson’s offensive game is a work-in-progress. He is an impressive athlete that will throw down some monster dunks, but the 19-year-old does not have a jump shot. He also needs to add mass to be a center in the NBA.
The Memphis Grizzlies take a chance on Isaiah Jackson’s potential in the mid-first round. They could have a starting big man on their hands if they help him reach his ceiling.
