2021 NBA Draft mock #9: Sacramento Kings: Josh Giddey
Giddey has been flying up draft boards after an outstanding season in the NBL. The 18-year-old averaged 10.9 points, 7.5 assists, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 32.1 minutes per game. His percentages were not outstanding, but the teenager was playing against grown men. Giddey’s numbers compare favorably to LaMelo Ball’s NBL stats.
The Australian is a 6’8 point guard that will be a lead ball-handler in the NBA. His passing and playmaking stand out on film. He makes the right plays and should be a strong pick and roll ball-handler.
His jumper is the biggest question mark. Giddey hit just 29.3 percent of his 99 3-point attempts this season. His 69.1 percent from the free-throw line creates more questions about how much the 18-year-old can improve. Giddey’s size and playmaking ability should push him into the top ten.
The Sacramento Kings have De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton, but they should be selecting the best player available. Sacramento has not made the playoffs since 2006. Acquiring talent should be their number one priority. Josh Giddey gives them another creator that would be a nightmare in transition. Expect the Kings to play fast and attempt to run other teams out of the arena.
