Best free agent point guards for Dallas Mavericks to target: 3. Lonzo Ball
Selected number two overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2017, Lonzo Ball is an extremely polarizing player. Fans either love him and believe in the flashes he’s shown, or they consider him just another overhyped prospect that will never meet the expectations that were placed upon him when he was drafted.
It doesn’t matter which side fans fall on when it comes to Zo, it is impossible to deny the talent that he possesses. The oldest of the Ball brothers has been in the spotlight for what seems like forever and with that comes expectations. He is only 23 years old with his best basketball still ahead of him.
In 2020, he averaged 14.6 points per game while shooting 41.4 percent from the field and 37.8 percent on his threes. Ball is a playmaker at heart as he averaged just under six assists per game. Although NBA teams can never have too much scoring, it’s the playmaking ability that should interest the Mavericks.
Bringing Lonzo on board would alleviate some of the workload and pressure that Luka Doncic currently carries on a nightly basis. Ball is a restricted free agent but could be a signing that fans look back at and wonder how Dallas pulled it off.
