Bargain big free agent for Dallas Mavericks to pursue: 2. Torrey Craig
The 30-year-old went undrafted in 2014 but had a successful career in the NBL before jumping to the NBA. He has played four seasons in the NBA and had a playoff role in three of them. Craig is a role player. He thrives in 15 to 20 minutes per game where he can play solid defense and not hurt his team on the offensive end of the floor.
Craig is 6’7 with the versatility to defend multiple positions. He is not going to score a ton or handle the ball on the offensive end. Craig plays his role and tries to maximize those around him.
He reached the NBA Finals this season with the Phoenix Suns. Craig was in the Western Conference Finals with the Denver Nuggets inside the bubble. The 30-year-old has played 50-plus NBA playoff games, despite only being in the league for four seasons.
The Dallas Mavericks need to add postseason experience. Craig has been on the biggest stage in the NBA. He is unselfish and will thrive in any role. His 3-point shooting has improved every season and could reach a new career-high flanking Luka Doncic in Dallas. The Mavericks need switchable wing defenders. Torrey Craig fits that mold and would be an outstanding addition in Dallas.
