Bargain big free agent for Dallas Mavericks to pursue: 4. Austin Rivers

Rivers has played for six different teams in his nine seasons in the NBA. The 28-year-old is the son of Sixers head coach Doc Rivers. The Mavericks have had success with the sons of professional players, and Rivers can do a bit of everything. He is a career 35.0 percent 3-point shooter. The 6’4 guard can handle the ball, make plays, and defend on the perimeter.

Rivers was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the deadline and quickly waived this season. He caught on with the Denver Nuggets for the stretch run after Jamal Murray’s season-ending injury. Rivers went on to start nine of their ten playoff games. He averaged 9.2 points and 2.1 assists in 30.5 minutes per game. The veteran has 55 games of postseason experience, but should still be in his prime.

Austin Rivers would give the Dallas Mavericks another capable guard that can keep the offense flowing. He can space the floor for Luka Doncic and make smart plays. The 6’4 guard is hungry to win a championship after six trips to the playoffs. Rivers would be the perfect veteran to sign to a minimum deal to fill out the roster.
