Kawhi Leonard is the best free-agent small forward Dallas Mavericks can sign

Leonard is the unquestioned top free agent in this class. He is a top-five player in the league and an elite two-way option. Mavs fans have seen him up close and personal in the last two playoffs as the LA Clippers knocked out Dallas in the first round. Leonard swayed the series this year with incredible performances in games three, six, and seven.

Kawhi was the best player on the Raptors’ 2019 championship squad. It was the second time the Klaw won Finals MVP. He is a five-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year. Leonard needs no introduction and every team in the league would clear their cap sheet to acquire him.

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor rumored the Mavericks as the top threat to steal Kawhi away from the Clippers. Mavericks fans are getting their hopes up slightly, but Leonard is likely staying home in Los Angeles.

The free-agent small forward class is weak. Behind Kawhi Leonard, Kelly Oubre Jr., Will Barton, Nicolas Batum, and Otto Porter Jr. are starting-caliber options. The rest of the field is role players hoping to be part of a playoff rotation.
