DeMar DeRozan is the best free-agent shooting guard Dallas Mavericks can sign
DeRozan is one of the most disrespected superstars in the NBA. The four-time All-Star averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.9 steals in 33.7 minutes per game this season. He shot 49.5 percent from the field and 88.0 percent on his free throws. DeRozan pushed San Antonio into the play-in tournament with his elite production.
The 31-year-old shot 25.7 percent from 3-point range this season. He is a master of the mid-range but does not shoot well from beyond the arc. DeRozan is not going to expand it at this point. He is a bit of a throwback player. The four-time All-Star has only ever hit more than one 3-pointer per game once in his 12 NBA seasons.
DeRozan headlines a weak crop at this position. Tim Hardaway Jr., Norman Powell, Evan Fournier, and Danny Green are the other top names. Teams searching for wings will have to be active in the trade market or act fast because the free agents will dry up quickly.
Signing DeMar DeRozan would give the Dallas Mavericks a second-star player that can get 20-plus a night, handle the ball, and make plays. He hit a game-winner against the Mavericks this season and helped the Raptors get to the conference finals in 2016. DeRozan would love the chance to compete for a title, and playing next to Luka Doncic could be his best shot.
