Trade for Dallas Mavericks to acquire Damian Lillard: 1. Blazers blow it up
The most beneficial move for the Mavs would be to acquire two key figures in their rotation as the Blazers get younger and try to rebuild. Portland has shown zero interest in that. They just signed Chauncey Billups to be their head coach and have been all-in since Paul Allen bought the team. The Trail Blazers have made eight straight playoff appearances but only advanced past the first round once in the last five years.
Trading away Lillard means rebuilding for the Blazers. Here they would get Josh Green, two first-round picks, and three swaps to use as their next foundation. Portland would also be shopping CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic to jumpstart a total rebuild. The Blazers hope is Kristaps Porzingis plays well to begin next season, and they can ship him to a contender.
Robert Covington would give the Mavs a switchable forward with defensive versatility. Dallas needs to improve their defense. Bob Cov also opens the door for Dallas to play small and put shooters around their would-be star duo.
Will Damian Lillard stay in Portland? The moves they make this offseason could be the deciding factor. Expect the Dallas Mavericks to be on the phone if the 30-year-old superstar requests a trade. They may not have the package to acquire him, but the Mavs will make an offer.
