Dallas Mavericks steps to get back on track: 5. Round out roster with vets
The Mavs should not be taking upside fliers for their final roster spots this offseason. They need veterans that can make an impact in a playoff series. Look at the four remaining teams in the playoffs. The Hawks added Danilo Gallinari, Lou Williams, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Kris Dunn this year. LA upgraded with Nicolas Batum, Rajon Rondo, and Serge Ibaka. All four teams made similar moves to add veterans to their roster.
The Mavericks must acquire experienced players that have been in the postseason wars. Danny Green, P.J Tucker, JaVale McGee, Garrett Temple, and Batum are just some of the names hitting the open market this summer. The Mavs need to convince a few of these veterans to come to Dallas to play next to Luka Doncic. Having players that have been there is massive.
It will also give the new coach options with his rotation in the playoffs. The Mavericks lost to the Clippers two straight years in the first round in part because LA was the deeper team with more adjustments to make. Adding a few veterans could give Dallas that advantage in the 2022 postseason.
