Team that could acquire Kristaps Porzingis from Dallas Mavericks: 5. Warriors
The Golden State Warriors were knocked out in the play-in tournament this season and are facing a massive luxury tax bill. They have over $166 million in salary committed for next season without re-signing free agents Kelly Oubre Jr. or Kent Bazemore. Klay Thompson should be back, and the Dubs want to win now.
Golden State improved significantly after James Wiseman was injured. The 20-year-old needs more time to develop. The Warriors are going to be an issue next year if they stay healthy. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Thompson brought three titles to the Bay Area. They could be looking for another shooter to put around their three stars.
Consider it unlikely, but the Warriors could push all-in by adding a 7’3 Unicorn to space the floor for Curry. Draymond would be able to defend on the perimeter and cover Porzingis’ weaknesses on the defensive end. KP could thrive in Golden State.
The Mavericks would have to take back Andrew Wiggins. He could be the switchable wing defender Dallas covets. The Mavs may need to give up additional assets to make the swap, but it is a trade that could benefit both teams. Do not count on the Golden State Warriors acquiring Kristaps Porzingis this offseason, though.
