2021 NBA Draft mock #7: Golden State Warriors (via Minnesota Timberwolves): Davion Mitchell
The Timberwolves owe this pick to Golden State unless it falls in the top three. Instead, they dropped one spot to seventh in this mock lottery. The Warriors are looking to jump back into title contention after falling in the play-in tournament this year. Klay Thompson should be back to team with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The Dubs will be searching for ways to round out their roster.
Davion Mitchell is NBA-ready. The 22-year-old is fresh off winning an NCAA Championship with Baylor as he took home Big 12 Player of the Year honors. Mitchell averaged 14.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.9 steals in 33.0 minutes per game. He shot 51.1 percent from the field and 44.7 percent on his threes.
He was the lead ball-handler and playmaker for the Bears. The 22-year-old is just 6’2, but he played plus defense in college. Mitchell is a versatile two-way player that should help his NBA team win games immediately.
There are some questions about his jumper. He shot just 31.2 percent from 3-point range on 157 attempts during his other two college seasons. Will his shooting numbers fall back to earth in the NBA? The Warriors should help his jumper improve and make Davion Mitchell a two-way threat as a rookie.
