2021 NBA Draft mock #6: Oklahoma City Thunder: Scottie Barnes

Oklahoma City got the worst of the lottery simulation. The Rockets stayed in the top four to keep their pick, and the Thunder’s dropped two spots down to sixth. OKC is early in their rebuild and looking for top-end talent.

Barnes has a unique skill set. He averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 24.8 minutes per game during his lone season at Florida State. He played point guard at 6’9 with a 7’2 wingspan. He shot 50.3 percent from the field, but his jumper needs work. Barnes may never be a league-average 3-point shooter, but he offers playmaking and ball-handling abilities.

His defensive potential will have scouts drooling. Barnes has the size and athleticism to be able to guard one through four. He should be able to make the transition quickly with the upside to be one of the top defenders in this class. The 19-year-old has the physical profile every team is searching for in today’s NBA.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are excited to add Scottie Barnes to their young core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lu Dort, and Aleksej Pokusevski. Barnes gives them a capable ball-handler with size that has drawn comparisons to Draymond Green during this draft process.
