2021 NBA Draft mock #24: Houston Rockets (via Milwaukee Bucks): Ziaire Williams
Houston aims for the tremendous upside of Ziaire Williams with their third first-rounder. The 19-year-old displayed some ball-handling and playmaking ability to go along with his plus athleticism. The 6’8 forward could grow into a two-way force that is difficult to stop.
Williams averaged 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 steals in 27.9 minutes per game during his lone season at Stanford University. He shot just 37.4 percent from the field and 29.1 percent on his threes.
Williams will need a few years to develop before he is ready to make a significant impact in the NBA. He is listed at 185 pounds and has a slight frame. He will be asked to add mass as he develops at the next level. He displayed flashes but must be more consistent to get significant minutes.
The Houston Rockets envision having a 6’8 wing playmaker if they can help Ziaire Williams reach his immense ceiling. They will likely give him some minutes before he is truly NBA-ready to speed up his development. Williams is a player to watch going forward because the 19-year-old could be special if he reaches his peak.
