2021 NBA Draft mock #23: Houston Rockets (via Trail Blazers): Ayo Dosunmu

The Rockets have back-to-back picks here. They acquired this pick in the Robert Covington deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. Houston should be searching for the best player available as they try to rebuild their roster following the James Harden trade.

Dosunmu was a consensus All-American and two-time All-Big Ten selection during his three seasons at Illinois. He averaged 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in 35.1 minutes per game during his final campaign. Dosunmu shot 48.8 percent from the field and 39.0 percent on his threes. The 21-year-old improved every year and has a versatile skill set.

The 6’5 guard competes hard to make up for what he lacks in athleticism. He has shown flashes of ball-handling, playmaking, shooting, scoring, and defensive potential. The 21-year-old needs to prove he can do it in the NBA, but there is plenty of potential to get excited about when watching Dosunmu.

The Rockets are searching for young pieces to build their core around going forward. Ayo Dosunmu has a versatility and can handle the ball at 6’5. Houston looks no further with their second of three first-round picks in the 2021 NBA Draft.
