2021 NBA Draft mock #20: Atlanta Hawks: Greg Brown
The Hawks snapped their three-year playoff drought and won their first-round series for the first time since 2016. Trae Young is having a superstar breakout in the playoffs, but a key offseason decision looms for Atlanta. Starting power forward John Collins is a restricted free agent. Will the Hawks go into the luxury tax to re-sign him?
Helping replace his role through the draft is one avenue Atlanta could explore. Greg Brown is a talented forward the could grow into a key rotation player. He averaged 9.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.0 block in 20.6 minutes per game during his lone season at Texas. The 6’9 forward packs plenty of defensive potential but will have to keep his foul issues in check.
Brown is developing a 3-point shot. He hit just 33.0 percent of his 91 NCAA attempts, but there is potential there. Brown developing into a floor-spacing four that can protect the rim is the dream scenario for any team that drafts him.
The Hawks shoot for his upside over a few safer prospects on the board. Atlanta has never been shy about taking a risk in the draft, and they are reaping the benefits of their development system this season. Greg Brown could be the Hawks’ next project.
