Dallas Mavericks X-factor in playoffs: 3. Clutch Play
The Mavericks have made significant strides this year in winning close games. It was a massive issue last season when they finished 17-24 in clutch games as defined by NBA Stats.
Playoff series always come down to clutch plays, and the Mavs need to be successful in these dire situations. Free throws will also be gigantic because the playoffs are usually more chippy and the referees are lenient on foul calls. Dallas must make their free throws count late in the game to be successful.
Multiple players can be clutch for the Mavericks, whether that be the big two, Tim Hardaway Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, or Jalen Brunson. All of those men should be trusted with a late game-changing shot. This team needs to trust each other and get the best play for them to succeed. There were questionable mistakes earlier in the season, but as of late, the team has given fans confidence at the end of close games.
The Dallas Mavericks will be put to the test in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Hopefully, they can put these things together to make a deep playoff run. The Mavs have not won a playoff series since 2011, but this could be the year they have something up their sleeves.
