Dallas Mavericks X-factor in playoffs: 4. Inside Dominance

Threes are the name of the game now. It seems like you either win or lose on 3-point shooting, however that is not always the case. Rebounding and getting in the lane is a massive part of success, especially for this Mavs team.

This will be difficult in the first round. Clippers center Ivica Zubac has been a Mavs killer over the last three years. Dallas needs rebounds and shots in the paint to go up to pull the upset.

Fans have seen a jolt in both areas with Dwight Powell in the starting lineup. His relentless motor has made the Mavs a force. Hopefully, it is contagious in the playoffs.

It would also be fantastic for Porzingis to take a more inside-out approach, meaning rolling to the rim a lot early in the game to get him going. Fans have seen how easy the looks are for Dwight Powell in the middle. Just imagine if KP had a similar intensity going towards the rim, instead of floating around the 3-point line most of the time. He’d be nearly unstoppable catching the ball close to the rim, and it should make everything easier for him and the team.

Porzingis is a stellar 3-point shooter, but he does even better when he has those looks inside early in the game. This move would also give him more offensive rebound opportunities, which can determine these important games.
